It’s easy to think you’re helping someone when you’re really focused on your own pain. You may think, “what more can I do for them? Nothing I do seems to help.” Stop trying to fix. Start listening. Stop trying to control the outcome and give them the power to speak on their own terms unconditionally. Most of all, you need to understand and overcome your own pain before you can truly be there for someone else.
